This photo is from the bridge crossing the Huron River on Maple Road. I knew I wanted to shoot something along this stretch of the river and the bridge provided a good spot to shoot from. Initially I had wanted to take photographs of a log hidden back in the trees that commonly has turtles on it, however there was no way to getting the right angle without getting in the water. After trying multiple angles, many closer to the river, I finally got this angle showing the broader portion of the river, which has a nice amount of the water and the embankment. The lighting worked out well because I didn't get too much glare from the sun.

This photograph is from the other side of the river, again near the bridge. There was a nice patch of coloring leaves, which you can see in red, that I though would act as a great foreground to this shot of the river. Behind the trees across the river there is a house that I was afraid would get in the picture. Luckily it wasn't visible from this angle, but seemed to be from nearly any other angle. I really like how this photo turned out with the river acting as a middle ground between a forest background and colorful, bushy foreground.

Walking back from the bridge I decided to take some photographs aiming up the trunk of the tree. I'd taken plenty of tree photos from the standard horizontal angle, but wanted something to spice it up so I tried this angle. I like how this looks because you get some leaves and detail of the trunk against the background of the top of the tree. I could have used trees with more upper branches to have a more interesting middle ground but I liked how this tree looked, especially with the coloring of the leaves. There weren't any vibrantly colored trees to take this angle of which was disappointing because I would have liked to see more variety of colors from this angle.

This photo is shot in my backyard. I wandered through the woods behind my house looking for photogenic areas and I found this. Prior I hadn't ever thought of this angle as photogenic. Many of the fallen trees had rotted and are now laying flat on the ground rather than angling up. The tall angling tree provided a nice frame for the rest of the scene. The trees in the middle ground make a sort of path receding back into the woods, which is a cool detail.

This photograph is taken from the creek-bed of the creek in my back yard. The creek is usually running this time of year but for some reason it was dry. This tree has been dead but standing here as long as I can remember, half in the creek-bed. The water of the creek has hallowed out the roots giving them a cool, almost floating, look. All of the roots have a different texture which is pretty cool because there is variation within the foreground of the texture.
